Chapter 15
Statutory duties in respect of the disposal of bodies

Sending the cause of death information to the Ministry of Health

15.13Currently, under the Act, the person in charge of the disposal of a body must send a copy of the doctor’s certificate or the coroner’s authorisation to the Ministry of Health.271 We consider that this provision does not need to be continued in the new statute. As mentioned, in Chapter 5, we proposed that the cause of death certification is completed under an online process. Such a system should have a facility for the doctor to automatically send the information to the Ministry of Health when it is completed. This does not require statutory provisions but should be done administratively.
